About Words Unscrambler

Words Unscrambler is a small set of free, browser based word game tools: an unscrambler, an anagram solver, a Wordle and Quordle solver, a Spelling Bee and Boggle solver, a scramble puzzle maker, a random word generator, and a dictionary checker, built for anyone stuck on a rack of letters, a crossword clue, or today's Wordle.

How it works

Every tool on this site runs entirely in your browser. When you type letters into the Unscrambler or a guess into the Wordle Solver, that text never leaves your device. There's no server processing your input, because there simply doesn't need to be one. The dictionary and matching logic load once when the page opens, and everything after that is instant, local computation.

The dictionary behind the tools

Word matching is powered by ENABLE, short for Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon, a free public domain word list originally compiled by Alan Beale as an open alternative to licensed, proprietary word game dictionaries. It contains around 172,800 words. It won't line up exactly with every licensed tournament list; see Check Dictionary for more on that, but it's broad, unencumbered, and well suited to exactly this kind of tool.

ENABLE itself dates back to the 1990s, so we've supplemented it with a small, hand-checked set of genuinely common modern words it predates, things like APP, EMOJI, PODCAST and WIFI, each one a word we could confirm is real and standard, not slang or a proper noun, before adding it.

Why we built this

Good word game tools tend to be cluttered with pop ups and slow to load on a phone mid game. We wanted something fast, clean, and genuinely useful: type your letters, get your answer, get back to the game.

It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Hasbro, Mattel, Zynga, Scopely, Wordfeud AS, The New York Times Company, or any other trademark holder. Scrabble®, Words With Friends®, Wordscapes®, TextTwist®, Word Cookies®, Wordfeud, Wordle and Quordle are trademarks of their respective owners, named here only to describe which games these tools can help with.

How we write and maintain this site

Blog posts and tool pages are written and maintained by the Words Unscrambler team rather than credited to an individual staff writer, since that's an honest reflection of how a small, independent site like this actually gets built: pulled together by one team using the site's own dictionary and tools, not a newsroom. Where a post makes a factual claim, like a word count, a keyword search volume, or a list of valid words, we compute it directly from our own data rather than copying it from another site, and we say so in the post.

Posts carry a published date and, where content has genuinely been revised since then, a separate last reviewed date. We don't bump either date without an actual edit behind it; a changed date with no real change is the kind of stale trick search engines have gotten better at spotting, and it wouldn't tell you anything true anyway.
