Wordle asks you to find one hidden five letter word in six guesses. Quordle asks for four hidden words at once, with nine shared guesses. Octordle pushes that to eight hidden words with thirteen shared guesses. Each step multiplies the number of words without multiplying your guess budget by nearly as much, which is exactly why the difficulty climbs so fast.
Side by side
| Game | Hidden words | Total guesses | Guesses per word (rough) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wordle | 1 | 6 | 6.0 |
| Quordle | 4 | 9 | 2.25 |
| Octordle | 8 | 13 | 1.6 |
Why the difficulty jump feels so steep
In Wordle, every guess is entirely about one word. In Quordle and Octordle, the exact same guess gets checked against every board simultaneously, so a single guess has to work harder, gathering information across multiple hidden words at once, while your effective guesses per word keeps shrinking.
Does the same basic strategy carry over?
Mostly, yes. Common, distinct letters in your early guesses, careful attention to duplicate letter clues, and using guesses to gather information rather than guessing to win outright, all still apply. What changes is discipline: with so few guesses per word in Octordle, there's very little room for a guess that doesn't earn its keep.
Practice with our solvers
Our Wordle Solver and Quordle Solver both use the same underlying letter filtering logic, sized to one board and four boards respectively, so the habits you build on one transfer directly to the other.
Frequently asked questions
How many guesses does Octordle give you?
Thirteen, shared across all eight hidden words, compared to Quordle's nine for four words and Wordle's six for one.
Is Octordle just a harder version of Quordle?
In effect, yes. It follows the same core mechanic, one guess checked against every board at once, just scaled up to eight simultaneous words with a tighter guesses-per-word ratio.
Does Wordle strategy still work in Quordle and Octordle?
The fundamentals carry over: common distinct letters early, careful attention to duplicate letters, treating early guesses as information gathering. What changes is how little room there is for a guess that doesn't earn its keep.
Which is hardest: Wordle, Quordle, or Octordle?
Octordle, by a clear margin, since it gives you the fewest effective guesses per hidden word of the three.
Do you have an Octordle solver?
Not yet, though our Quordle Solver's four-board approach could extend to eight boards using the same underlying logic. It's on our list.
